Meares Island Crossing
A classic, human powered paddle accross the harbour into the deep silence of Meares Island. Tie the boats up and step under the green canopy of the Big Tree Trail, walking by board-walk alongside the 1,000 year-old giants.
Deep Inlet Drop-off
Skip the crowded harbour entirely. You and your fleet are transported by boat deep into a silent inlet fjord. Dropped of in the stillness of the world heritage UNESCO Biosphere you paddle your way back with the tide with a real chance of paddling past foraging coastal bears, eagles on high, or catching a glimpse of the elusive sea wolves or cougars that call the area home.
Not at all. Ocean kayaking relies on proper core rotation and leg bracing rather than raw upper-body or arm strength. Our guided tours move at a relaxed, scenic pace designed for casual paddlers and families. Instructors teach you efficient, ergonomic paddle strokes on the beach before launching, ensuring you don't tire out your shoulders. We also take frequent breaks to rest, hydrate, and explore the ancient rainforest paths, making the journey highly accessible to anyone with an average, baseline level of everyday fitness.
Our tandem and single sea kayaks are commercial-grade vessels designed specifically for ocean stability, making an accidental capsize incredibly rare in calm coastal waters. They are wide, tracking straight and sitting low to resist rolling over in small waves. In the unlikely event that you do capsize, our professional guides are fully certified in advanced ocean rescue techniques. They will get you out of the water and back into a completely emptied kayak in less than two minutes. Every guest is securely fitted with a premium personal flotation device (PFD) before launching, ensuring total safety at all times.
Packing light, moisture-wicking layers is the absolute rule for coastal wilderness travel. Avoid all cotton clothing, as it holds moisture and makes you cold; stick entirely to synthetic or merino wool base layers, a fleece mid-layer, and a reliable waterproof jacket. Pack a dedicated set of dry clothes sealed inside a plastic bag strictly for wearing inside your tent at night. Don't forget high-SPF sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, a headlamp with extra batteries, quick-dry camp shoes, and a reusable water bottle. Your operator will provide heavy-duty dry bags that seal perfectly to slide into your kayak's storage hatches.
